Kaizen Recruitment Attends ACSI Conference 2025

Our very own Simon Gvalda, Kaizen Recruitment’s ESG, Sustainability and Responsible Investment recruitment expert had the privilege to attend the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors (ACSI) conference, where this year’s discussions centered on the critical sustainability issues facing investors and listed companies.

The conference brought together thought leaders to explore various facets of sustainable investment, governance, and emerging global trends. Some of the key takeaways from the conference regarding critical ESG and sustainability issues are below:

1. Sustainability and Governance

A key theme highlighted was the imperative for businesses to integrate sustainability into their long-term strategies. This includes aligning executive remuneration with safety and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals. Encouragingly, ASX200 boards are making strides towards achieving gender balance, reflecting a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in corporate leadership.

2. Investment and Regulation

Superannuation funds are increasingly shifting towards private markets, seeking better returns and portfolio diversification. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) underscored the importance of accurate investment valuations and advocated for simplified regulations to foster a more transparent investment landscape.

3. Nature and Biodiversity Risks

Australia faces significant biodiversity loss, ranking second globally in this challenge. There is mounting investor pressure for companies to disclose nature-related risks comprehensively. Policymakers were urged to strengthen environmental regulations to mitigate these risks effectively, ensuring sustainable practices across industries.

4. AI and Geopolitics

The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to reshape industries and global power dynamics. Discussions emphasised the critical need for robust governance frameworks to guide responsible and transparent AI deployment. Ensuring ethical AI use remains pivotal amid its transformative impact on economies and societies worldwide.

5. Modern Slavery

Australia’s establishment of the Anti-Slavery Commission marks a pivotal step in combating modern slavery risks within supply chains. The initiative fosters cross-sector collaboration aimed at addressing forced labor and enhancing supply chain transparency, reflecting a proactive approach to ethical business practices.

6. Climate Action

Despite commendable efforts by leading nations like China and India in carbon reduction, the global trajectory still points towards a warming of 1.7-1.9°C. The urgency to achieve the 1.5°C target outlined in the Paris Agreement remains paramount. Stakeholders highlighted the ongoing need for decisive climate action to mitigate environmental impacts and foster a sustainable future.

As ESG, sustainability, and responsible investment continue to move from the periphery to the core of corporate strategy, we expect to see growing demand for talent across governance, sustainability, risk, and compliance functions. Organisations are not only seeking professionals with technical expertise, but also those who can navigate evolving regulatory landscapes, drive ethical practices, and embed long-term value creation into business decision-making.

At Kaizen Recruitment, we’re already seeing increased activity in these areas—particularly across the corporate and consulting sectors—and anticipate continued momentum as these themes mature. If you’re looking to grow your team or explore new opportunities in this space, feel free to reach out to our team to learn more about the latest trends, salary insights, and talent movement in the market.
