Amongst the plethora of sound advice shared, PWC’s Siobhan Hennessy, Partner, emphasised the need to develop and hone one’s emotional intelligence and not only focus on learning technical skills. The more an individual progresses in their career, it is the ability to resolve issues and liaise with people from diverse backgrounds that becomes increasingly important.
David Doyle, Head of Capability, Institutional at ANZ also underscored that the most transferable skills in a long-term career are stakeholder management, the ability to sell and the ability to communicate. He added that one should aim to pursue excellence, rather than a microscopic role to mitigate one’s risk. Networking, empathising and being inquisitive enables the comprehension beyond one’s industry and competitors, leading to more opportunities.
Jenny Taing, Product Manager, Head of Implementation at Vanguard, encouraged professionals to engage with their community early on because the learning and development helps in later stages of one’s career. She also highlighted that no one is ever the first person to face a certain problem, thus, having an industry mentor is of supreme value.
The forum served as an insightful and productive platform for professionals at various stages of their careers. It was also an excellent opportunity to network, develop a broader understanding of the financial services market and hear from industry peers.
Kind regards,
Matt McGilton – Director
